Filmpack operated as a functional sculpture worn by the artist from 2015 to 2018. Haftner learned how to crochet plastic bags when she was young from her grandmother, Ruby Simons, who uses the method to produce strong, multipurpose tote bags. The work was made to replace a failing object with a sculpture, and to employ Michael Helms’ notion of 'agathonic design' as a means of refuting planned obsolescence.
