Studio > For Apung Iru

For Apung Iru is a land art project at the Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis scheduled to be installed along the southern bank of Bean Creek, which runs through the organization’s campus. Conceived as an effort toward habitat restoration, this project is being planned with three primary goals in mind:

1) To mitigate flooding and erosion along the stream bank;
2) To replace invasive species with native plantings conducive to bioremediation;
3) And to provide habitat for pollinators and ground-nesting animals.

Aligning with the museum's development of the outdoor area north of the creek with communal space, native plantings, and nature-focused educational features, For Apung Iru is aimed at providing the organization’s neighboring communities with observational access points welcoming neighbors to engage with the waterway and a restored habitat that provides year-round visual interest and opportunities for learning.
